Editorial spotlight · North Tamiami Trail, Venice
Nine boats on one dock in Venice, rented by the half day with no captain: NauticStar deck boats, four pontoons and a 26-foot Panga, with the intracoastal in one direction and the Gulf through the jetties in the other. Shark teeth on the beaches, dolphins in the pass.

The operation
Captain Steve Jones took over the business in 2009. He is a Florida native and a USCG-licensed captain with more than thirty years on the water; the site also names Mike Rose, a long-serving member of staff, which in a nine-boat operation means you tend to deal with the same two people each time.
The fleet is deliberately simple: four NauticStar deck boats from twenty to twenty-two feet, four 22-foot pontoons with names rather than numbers, and a 26-foot Panga. Everything rents by the half or full day, with kayaks, paddleboards and jet skis alongside. A captained sunset cruise runs at $350 for people who would rather not drive.
“We are here because we love what we do and we want you to love it too.”
