Editorial spotlight · Oleta River State Park, North Miami Beach
Mangrove tunnels and seagrass flats inside the largest urban state park in Florida, with the Miami skyline over the treeline. Guided eco paddles, a snorkel tour, full moon and new moon trips, and a clean-up paddle that costs nothing if you are willing to pick up what the tide brought in.

The operation
Oleta River State Park covers around a thousand acres at the top of Biscayne Bay, the largest urban state park in Florida, with mangrove shoreline, a sandy swimming beach and Sandspur Island offshore. The outfitter works from inside the park, which means the launch is a short carry from the water rather than a drive.
The programme is broader than a rental counter: a guided eco paddle, a snorkel adventure tour, sunset and full moon trips, a new moon meditation paddle with singing bowls, beginner paddleboard classes and a volunteer clean-up paddle that is free to join. Kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, mountain bikes and cruiser bikes all rent by the hour.
“Kayak, SUP, Raccoon Island and wildlife exploration.”
The operator does not publish a guide roster; reviewers name Stephanie and Jennifer.
The one to book
The guided route through the mangrove shoreline and out across the flats, with a guide naming what you are looking at. Manatees and dolphins pass through; the raccoons on Sandspur Island come down to the waterline.
Adults $60, teens $50, youth $40. The snorkel version is $70 and the sunset and full moon paddles are $75.

A new moon paddle with singing bowls runs monthly, which is not something most outfitters offer.
The volunteer clean-up paddle is free to join and runs on a published schedule.
Reviews
Reviewers name guides Stephanie and Jennifer, mention raccoons on Sandspur Island and flexible timing when they arrived late; the common caution is that park entry is charged separately.
